May the Odds Be Ever In Your Favor

The wait was unbearable but there was only so much that could be done while the magical storms raged in the Umbra and Horizon of their world, the delicate layers that held the magic that shaped their universe and the barrier between it and others.

Jack rocked in place where he sat perched on one of the railings, Bunny sat with his arms crossed, ears twitching.

Every so often one of them would reach out a hand or paw and activate the brand on their hands, permanently emblazoned there by the various Powers That Be. The brands let them open gates to the other worlds that their friends now all resided. On of them tried every few minutes, like clockwork, to open a specific portal, to a specific world. Each time, the brand flared with light...and then failed.

Because of the storms. They had to wait for the storms to be over. Wait and hope they didn't have to wait much longer.

They'd sent Jamie home. It'd taken them a long time to talk him out of thinking it was his fault. He'd tried to follow the adventures of all the former Guardians, just to make sure they were okay, since sometimes the TV shows and comics and other media gave a warning of what was to happen to them or told them about something bad that was currently happening. Just as they had been Guardians of him and every other child in the world and saved them from death, he'd appointed himself a Guardian of the Guardians, watching over them all and sometimes cluing some of them in to when others among them needed help before they even had to ask.

Jamie hadn't realized at first that one of their own was in that particular series, and it'd been too dark a concept for him to even want to look into. It wasn't until it was already too late, after several issues were out, that he noticed she was in it because of a post on an online forum. As soon as he found out, he'd run to the nearest comic store and bought every issue that was out so far, then come running through a portal to the Pole.

But the storms had prevented them from getting to Nico's world.

So Jack and Bunny had assured Jamie it wasn't his fault, that he couldn't be expected to always know everything. So they waited, and hoped, and tested the door every few minutes. The other Guardians took care of everything else that needed to be taken care of in the meantime, leaving them on watch so they could go running to help the moment they could.
